WHAT A FORTNIGHT FOR VICTORIAN BUDGIES!
This year’s Young Bird State Championship Show was once again a tremendous success. An impressive total of 1,087 entries graced the benches from the 17 participating clubs, representing an outstanding display of quality birds from across the state.
At the completion of judging, the Phoenix Club emerged victorious with a strong score of 686 points. The Geelong and Riverina Clubs rounded out the top three placings, with only 10 points separating the two clubs. It was a fantastic day for the fancy in Victoria and a fitting prelude to the “big dance” the following weekend.
The ANBC National Championship Show has now been run and won, concluding a magnificent celebration of the competition’s 50th anniversary. Team Victoria proved successful at the event and brought home the ANBC Shield for another year, engraving our name on yet another plaque and adding another chapter to the history books.
Congratulations to our members who were fortunate enough to secure 14 of the 28 Logies on offer, as well as those whose birds contributed to our winning team effort.
A memorable achievement occurred over the course of the weekend when one of our own members was inducted into the ANBC Hall of Fame for Breeder Excellence. Congratulations to John Ennis of the Geelong Club, who earned his place among the fancy’s most distinguished breeders by securing an incredible four wins over the weekend. This is an outstanding achievement by any measure and one that deserves the highest recognition.
Congratulations also to New South Wales on finishing in second place, and to South Australia for rounding out the top three State/Zone placings on the podium.
Special mention must go to all the organisers and volunteers from the South Queensland Budgerigar Breeders Association in Southport on the Gold Coast. The event they planned and hosted from start to finish was truly exceptional. The show itself, along with the associated functions, was conducted in a superb venue that was perfectly suited to the occasion and provided an ideal environment for exhibitors and visitors to interact, network, and enjoy the weekend. Congratulations to everyone involved.
With planning already well underway, the fancy now looks forward to the 51st running of the ANBC National Championship Show in Canberra, hosted by the Budgerigar Society of New South Wales.
